George was born in St. Paul, MN on July 15, 1922 to George F. Poulsen and Jennie M. Poulsen. He attended Riverside gradeschool, Monroe High School and the School of Technology at the University of Minnesota. He lived in Highland Park in St. Paul until he married Jeanette Anderson.
Their son, Richard of Dallas, TX survives him, along with his brother, Bruce of Seattle, WA. George had a second marriage to Florence Travnick and lived with her in rural Shafer, MN until he moved to Ecumen North Branch in 2009. Florence and his step son, Curtis Travnick of Lindstrom, MN, provided close family support during his residence at Ecumen. Their support was greatly valued amongst our family.
George grew up in the Gloria Dei Lutheran church in St. Paul where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Luther League and a leader of the Boy Scout Troop. While living in Shafer, he attended Lakes Free Evangelical Church, in Lindstrom with Florence and was a member of the Sunday School Class. George was a Quality Control Engineer at Western Electric’s telephone equipment plant in St. Paul. After it closed, he was employed at Univac, Control Data, and at Amador Company in Amador Township during his semi-retirement. He was also an early member of the Society for Quality Control. George was totally attached to his memories and possession of Model T Fords. A great joy for him was when he could celebrate the Swedish heritage and to give a ride in his handsome Model T truck to youngsters, in the parade in Chisago City.
George looked forward to regular visits, especially of Wayne Moberg of Dresser, WI, and Jerry Erickson, who conveyed news of Lakes Free Evangelical Church in Lindstrom. George will be remembered forever by his family and friends, especially those friends from the St. Croix Valley Community where he resided. He had a deep attachment to his family, his residence overlooking the St. Croix Valley, and to the Scandinavian ancestry which he greatly respected.
