5th grade Math Masters know their stuff
 | Six 5th grade teams, two from Taylors Falls Elementary School and four from Lakeside Elementary School, traveled to Hammond, WI for the Math Masters competition. Chisago Lakes Schools was well represented in the competition with Team 1 from Taylors Falls Elementary placing first, Lakeside Platinum placing 2nd, Lakeside Green placing third, Lakeside White placing fourth, Taylors Falls 2 placing 6th, and Lakeside Gold placing 10th.

| Inclement weather no match for can-do spirit |
The past two years many students in Chisago Lakes receiving Developmental Adapted Physical Education (DAPE) have participated in a DAPE Challenge with students from North Branch, Rush City, Pine City, and East Central. This year’s challenge was set for Pine City. The DAPE Challenge was supposed to be a fun day of activities designed just for them. Due to the weather in Pine City it was canceled.

| | Be part of the plan; NB needs you | When North Branch Schools hired Dr. Deb Henton as superintendent, the first thing the district embarked upon was creating a strategic plan dubbed Mapping Our Future. The district is coming to the end of this five year roadmap, and there will be a couple of opportunities for the public to engage with school officials on the next five year plan, which is being referred to as “Building On Success.”

| | CL High School ranks nationally | The annual U.S. News and World Report school ratings list is out, and Chisago Lakes High School was among 136 “medalists” chosen as exceptional schools in Minnesota. There were six high schools that were ranked as Gold and 40 got Silver medals and Chisago Lakes was in with the 90 high schools winning a Bronze rating.

Three sixth-grade students from Lakes International Language Academy (LILA) won top honors for their entries in the 2013 Jackie Robinson Essay Contest sponsored annually by the Minnesota Twins Major League Baseball club. Alejandra Gallegos (first place), Jack Callahan (second place) and Leala Lundmark (third place) received tickets to Jackie and Me at the Children’s Theatre Company as well as tickets to the baseball game at Target Field on Jackie Robinson Day, April 15.

energy savings continue at North Branch Area Schools | North Branch Area Public Schools began participation in the Schools for Energy Efficiency program in February of 2009. According to Energy Efficiency Program Coordinator Becky Leuer, "The main purpose in becoming involved in this program was to save school resources through energy conservation. The program has been very successful for us and we have shown significant cost avoidance during the past four years."

Students enjoyed outstanding success at the Minnesota Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference. Chisago Lakes High School Business Professionals of America (BPA) competed at the conference March 7-9. Approximately 1,000 students from around the state of Minnesota participated.
