Farm-to-School celebrated in North Branch
Sunrise River Elementary School in North Branch likes to celebrate its Farm-to-School program  in the fall.  This is a concerted effort matching local growers to supply produce for public schools.  Lessons on where food comes from are being taught in class and Sunrise invites area farmers-- who raise chickens, (see photo below) goats, ducks, and grow apples and vegetables--  to participate in school activities.  The young students love to be up-close to the farm animals and they also have garden beds in front of the school for hands-on learning about plants,  from seed to harvest.  Plus, there’s always a tractor, above,  on Farm to School day the kids can climb on.  The school Food Service Department gets into the spirit sporting overalls, bandanas, straw hats and seed caps and the kids get a little agri-hip with their clothes too.
