Robbinsdale Cooper scored two runs in the top of the first inning and the proved to be all they needed as they shut out the Wildcats 5-0 last Wednesday, May 8 at Chisago Lakes. The Wildcats managed just four singles for the game. Wildcats pitchers Kellen Reed, Dylan Magnuson and Colton Mueller combined to strike out 15 batters, and allowed just seven hits, but walked nine. | Ideal conditions don't lead to ideal results for NB golf |
The North Branch girls golf team had been battling poor weather conditions all year, and there was hope that was the cause of their slow start. But, with the sun shining and the course dry last week, the Vikings still struggled in their North Suburban Conference meet at Victory Links. “The conditions were the best we’ve seen this season, and still, as a team we didn’t take advantage,” Head Coach Dave Ambers said after the meet. The Wildcat boys’ hockey team handed out their 2012-2013 season awards at a banquet held last week at Chisago Lakes High School. First year Wildcat head coach Paul Gibson said “This team’s identity was that they never gave up. It seemed like we had no hope when we were behind at Minnehaha Academy, but these guys somehow came back and won that one. That’s when I knew these guys hated to lose. After winning section championships and the consolation championship at the state tournament two of the last three years, the 2012-2013 season was a letdown for the Wildcat girls hockey team. Some drop-off was expected after 12 seniors graduated in 2012. But injuries to key players derailed the Wildcats’ season. They lost a bulk of their scoring and rebounding last year in Whitney Tinjum, Zoe Hansen, Brittney Land and Annie Stenson. They were going to be too small. They were going to have a tough time replacing three of their five starters. They weren’t supposed to go back to the state tournament after their historic first appearance last year.
