Wildcats aiming for state tourney
The Wildcat boys’ soccer team won both their quarterfinal and semifinal games in overtime – against Legacy Christian Academy in a penalty kick shootout and against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton on a golden goal – to advance, for the fourth time in school history, to tonight’s section championship game.  The section championship game was always scheduled to be at Chisago Lakes High School, so it’s just plain luck that the Wildcats are playing at home and will face off against the Duluth Denfeld Hunters at 5:30 p.m.  Denfeld beat Hermantown 3-1 to advance to the Section 7A final.

Three shutouts highlight CL's week
Chisago Lakes 2, North Branch 0
The Wildcats took on the Vikings in a much anticipated Mississippi 8 Conference and Section 7A showdown Tuesday, September 27 at North Branch High School.  The Vikings have enjoyed a successful season to date and came in full of confidence that they could turn the tables on the Wildcats.  In the first ten minutes the Vikings had the better of the play, but strong defensive play by the Wildcats kept the Vikings off the scoreboard.  The Wildcats took control of the game at that point, but struggled to solve the Vikings high offsides trap and sweeping keeper.  Grace Kugel finally solved the riddle and sent a high arching ball over the top of the North Branch goalkeeper into the back of the net to put the Wildcats up 1-0 at the half.

Chisago Lakes fights through wet homecoming to beat Princeton 21-12
As a steady rain fell early in the Wildcat’s homecoming matchup with Princeton last Friday night, it looked like the Wildcats were going to turn it into a blowout.  They scored in their first two offensive plays of the game to go up 13-0.  On their next possession, a Wildcat player scored on a long run to apparently give the Wildcats a three touchdown lead while the game was in the first quarter.  But the play was called back because of an inadvertent whistle by one of the referees.  The Tigers went on to stop the Wildcats on that possession and what had looked like a blowout became a pretty tight matchup.  The Wildcat defense came up with two big plays late in the game and held off the charging Tigers 21-12 for their second win of the season.
