CL Triathlon is fast approaching

Staff

In just a few short weeks the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Chisago will host the third Annual Chisago Lakes Half Ironman and Sprint Triathlon.

You have probably noticed runners and bicyclists on the run course, on Old Town Road and southeast of Chisago City, and on the bike course to the north of Chisago City, redesigned this year due to road construction.

This swim, bike, run event draws thousands of athletes from our local area and throughout the United States. Managed by Midwest Sports Events, as part of the 5 STAR Series, this is a USAT-sanctioned event that is intended to "positively impact communities and to help individuals create healthy lifestyles". With the support of fantastic sponsors and volunteers, we are able to deliver a quality event that is safe, technically sound and exciting for everyone involved.

The Chamber appreciates the continuing support of local sponsors: Medical Sponsor - Fairview Lakes Health Services, who provides training and medical support through every phase of this event; Presenting Sponsor - The RiverBank MN, and Parmly LifePointes. Other sponsors include Forest Lake Cycle and Skate, Gear West, REI, Sturdiwheat Foods, Triathlon World, Endurance World, Fleet Feet Sports and Aqua Sphere .

There are three distance events beginning with the Kids' Triathlon at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 26 and the adult Half Ironman and Sprint distance triathlons begin at 7 a.m. on Sunday, July 27. The Sprint distance includes a _-mile swim, 20-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run, while the Half Ironman participants will endure a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run, but will be rewarded by a panoramic view of the St. Croix River. To register for the event, you can pick up a registration form at Forest Lake Cycle and Skate, the Vitalize! Center at Parmly LifePointes, Fairview Lakes Clinic, or the Chamber Office & Information Center in Lindstrom, or visit:

www.midwestsportsevents.com.

If you are not planning to participate, but want to support your family or friends - or get a "front row seat" to watch - please volunteer! Volunteers are needed throughout the event to help with set-up, staff the Chamber booth, to direct spectators and participants on and off the course, to assist with transition between the events, provide refreshments at the aid stations along the course and after the race, and other assignments. All volunteers receive a t-shirt, and are invited to attend a "kick-off" celebration and brief training session on Thursday evening before the event. To volunteer or for more information, please contact the Chamber office at 651 257-1177, or send an email to clacc@frontiernet.net. This is a great opportunity for businesses, organizations, families, neighbors or individuals to support this community. The triathletes really appreciate the hospitality!
