CL falls in showcase to top ranked 2A team
Chisago Lakes 67, Little Falls 34
Chisago Lakes overcame a dreadful free throw shooting night to take it to Little Falls in their season opening 67-34 win.
Senior Carmen Backes was the Wildcats’ top performer, scoring 17 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven steals and four assists.
Heather Elfering was the only other ‘Cats in double figured, with 11 points, as they used deep bench and balanced attack to continuously pressure the Flyers.
They had 17 steals on the night, led by Hannah Gillach’s seven. The early pressure led them to a 16 point lead at halftime at 36-20, and they continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Little Falls 31-14.
Norwood Young America 71, Chisago Lakes 53
For as deep as the Wildcats are, they ran into a bit of a buzzsaw in second-ranked Class AA team Norwood Young America at the Breakdown Tip Off Classic in Hopkins on Saturday, December 2. They had four players in double figures and fifth at nine points.
Kali Grimm led their charge with 18 points, Abby Mackenthun had 17 points, Bren Fox chipped in 13 and Anna Mackenthun had 10.
The Raiders led 35-27 at halftime, keeping the ‘Cats off banace on offense with a mix of pressure defenses.
Backes led CL with 17 points and 12 rebounds, but only Anna Peters was in double figures outside of that, with 10 points. Gillach had nine points and seven rebounds in the losing effort.
