North Branch and Chisago Lakes have a tough time at M8C meet

CHISAGO LAKES
Boys
The boys finished in last place out of 10 teams, but there was a couple factors that were out of their control.

They were paced by Nick Lindsey, who has led them all year, and he finished in 19th place with All Conference honors. “The course is pretty narrow and rough in the first part, but he got through that part behind a bit more conservative,” Head Coach Ken Orwoll said. “Once he was on the trails at the park he started catching and passing runners. When he was about 800 meters out he was in 21st and still needed to catch one to get the All-Conference honors.  He caught two to finish in 19th place.”

For the second half of the season, Augie and Axel Leopold have been a consistent second and third runner for the ‘Cats, but Axel came into the meet with a sickness. Orwoll said he probably shouldn’t have ran, but being a senior, he didn’t want to miss his last conference meet. The cold got the best of him, and he finished near the back of the pack.

Axel came out determined to keep pace with Lindsey, but he just couldn’t stay on that line for the second half of the race and he faded fast, also.

But, Orwoll did note that Will Nelson ran well, just a little under his personal best, and Dru Ellering also had a person best to finish in the third spot for Chisago Lakes.

Girls
The girls ran to a seventh place finish out of 10 teams, just one point behind sixth place Cambridge-Isanti.

Leah Dreckman was the only Wildcat to finish with honors as her 23rd place finish earned her All-M8C Honorable Mention. It was another personal best for Dreckman.

Rebekah Olinger finished just one spot out of All-Conference Honorable Mention in 31st place. Alex Harper finished just two seconds off of her personal best, and Annika Dubbs had a season best as the fifth Wildcat in.

“Overall I was pleased with the girls performance in a meet with some of the best teams in the state,” Orwoll explained. “The conference meet exceeds the section meet when it comes to talent.”

NORTH BRANCH
Boys
The boys from North Branch finished in eight place in their race, earning one All-Conference Honorable Mention award for Matthew Stuber. He was their top finisher in 29th place with a time of 18:30.441.

Aiden Bear, Joe Nihart, Micah Pick, Logan Murphy and Lucas Edson also finished well for North Branch.

Girls
The girls finished ninth out of 10 teams, with an All-Conference Honorable Mention award from Cora Hudella in 23rd place. She finished the race in 21:42.
The next North Branch finisher didn’t cross the checkered line until 61st place, so it was mostly Hudalla’s show at the conference meet. The Vikings finished just two points ahead of Big Lake.

Sections
The Section 7AA cross country meet will beheld at Cloquet Golf Course on Thursday, October 26. The boys will run at 3 p.m. and the girls will be right after at 3:45.
