Chisago Lakes 8, Monticello 0 The Wildcats scored early and often, piling up eight runs in the first three innings as they cruised to an 8-0 shutout of Monticello at Monticello last Friday, May 1. Cassie Lynch went the distance on the mound, scattering five hits while walking three and striking out four. Alex Smith got the Wildcats going in the first inning with an impressive two run homer to left center, driving in Sami Sandretto. Joplin Klick and Quinccy Zupko followed with singles. Klick scored after a couple of wild pitches and the Wildcats led 3-0 after one. In the second, Bree Lang walked to start a two-out rally.
Smith doubled in Lang and Klick followed with a single up the middle to plate Smith and put the Wildcats up by five. Smith was removed from the game after the sixth inning because of a possible concussion. The injury was sustained sometime prior to the game in an activity unrelated to softball. In the third, Kari Martinka singled with one out and Emily Hammer walked with two out to put runners on first and second. Sandretto and Lang followed with singles that each drove in a run and Sandretto later scored on a wild pitch to give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead. Becker Tournament
Chisago Lakes 9, Superior 1 Cassie Lynch starred on the mound and at the plate as she led her team to a 9-1 win in the Wildcats’ opening game at the Becker tournament. In seven innings of pitching, Lynch allowed one earned run on eight hits, walked one and struck out nine. At the plate, she tripled to drive in two runs in the third inning and later added a run scoring single. Quinncy Zupko had two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Caty Karwand drove in two, while Kari Martinka and Brooke Mueller had one RBI each. Emily Hammer doubled for the Wildcats’ other extra base hit.
Anoka 18, Chisago Lakes 0 The Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw in their second game at Becker, losing to powerful Anoka 18-0. The Wildcats managed just two hits in the game, a double by Joplin Klick and a single by Bree Lang.
Chisago Lakes 7, Becker 1 Sami Sandretto, Quinncy Zupko and Joplin Klick drove in two runs apiece as the Wildcats beat host team Becker 7-1 to claim third place in the Becker tournament. Cassie Lynch gave up one earned run in seven innings of pitching, allowing just four hits, walking two and striking out three. Klick and Sandretto had three hit s apiece and Lang had two. Emily Hammer also drove in a run for the Wildcats.
