Chisago Lakes 2, St. Francis 0 Goalie Jake DuBose stopped all 29 shots he faced as the Wildcats shut out the St. Francis Fighting Saints 2-0 last Thursday, January 30 at Chisago Lakes Arena. Brandon Gillespie scored the only goal the Wildcats needed six minutes into the second period, assisted by Ryan Chambers and Blake Lizotte. Nic Bartz scored an insurance goal, unassisted, midway through the third period.
Chisago Lakes 4, St. Michael-Albertville 3 Trevor Lushanko scored his second goal of the game, assisted by his brother Landon Lushanko, with less than two minutes left in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Wildcats a 4-3 win over STMA Saturday, February 1 at Chisago Lakes Arena. The win improved the Wildcats’ record to 15-7 overall for the season. They are 6-2 in the Mississippi 8 Conference, good for third place behind Buffalo and Rogers. And the Wildcats are undefeated in section play at 6-0, giving them a good shot at the number one seed in the upcoming section playoffs.
STMA scored the only goal of the first period, and also added a goal early in the second period, to go up 2-0. Ryan Chambers got the Wildcats on the board midway through the second period, assisted by Zak Lambrecht and Blake Lizotte. And with just under 90 seconds remaining in the period, CJ Haskins scored to tie things up. Trevor Lushanko and Brandon Gillespie assisted on the play. STMA took a penalty with under 30 seconds left in the period and Lushanko made them pay. He scored a power play goal 52 seconds into the third period to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game at 3-2. But STMA scored less than two minutes later to knot things back up at 3-3.
The score stayed that way until the Lushanko brothers performed their late game heroics. Gillespie leads the Wildcats in total points with 38, on 16 goals and 22 assists. Trevor Lushanko has 18 goals to lead the team in that category and playmaker Blake Lizotte leads the Wildcats in assists with 25. The Wildcats will host conference foe Rogers tonight at Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m. On Saturday, they will head to Moose Sherritt Ice Arena in Monticello for a conference game against Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake. The matinee starts at 3 p.m.
