Three emerge as champs from Skip Nalan Invite

Grand Rapids Skip Nalan Invitational Three Vikings wrestlers won their weight classes at last Saturday’s Skip Nalan Invitational tournament at Grand Rapids: Reid Johnson (132), Tristan Labelle (182) and Seamus Hunter (285). The Vikings also did well as a team in the 13-team tournament, finishing third overall behind Grand Rapids and Aitkin.
Johnson, ranked seventh in the state, pinned Kole Lefebvre of Mound-Westonka to take the title at 132. At 182, Labelle pinned Kal Handyside of Mound-Westonka to win the championship. And Hunter also pinned his opponent, Tyler Stoneburner of Princeton, to take the crown at 285. The Vikings had two second place finishers for the day. In the title match at 152, Arik Steele lost by pin to Jerod Novak of Aitkin. Novak is ranked fourth in the state at 145 in Class A. And at 160, Cameron Sampson lost by an 11-1 major decision to Mitch Bonderson of Nashwauk-Keewatin/Greenway.
The Vikings will participate in tomorrow’s Mississippi 8 Conference meet. The meet takes place at Monticello and begins at 4 p.m.
