North Branch can't keep up with Richfield's offense
by CHUCK FITZER

Richfield 7, North Branch 3
The Richfield Spartans scored three goals in each of the first two periods on their way to a 7-3 win over the Viking boys’ hockey team last Monday, November 25. The game was the first home game for the Vikings this season, played at Chisago Lakes Arena. The Vikings scored one goal in each period. TJ Reis scored in the first period, assisted by Ryan Byrkit. In the second period, Conner Martineau scored a power play goal, assisted by Joey Courtright, at the 3:10 mark to cut the Spartan lead to 3-2. But the Spartans responded with three goals to lead 6-2 after two. Brandon Waldo scored eleven seconds into the third period for the Vikings to cut the lead to 6-3, but that was as close as they got. Richfield outshot the Vikings 48-23 for the game. Viking goalie Tyler Byrkit stopped 41 of the 48 shots he faced in the game. The loss dropped the Vikings to 1-1-0 on the season. The Vikings will play at Como Park tonight at 8 p.m. This Saturday, December 7, they will take on Chisago Lakes at Chisago Lakes Arena at 12:30 p.m.
