Section 7A Quarterfinal: Princeton 1, Chisago Lakes 0 The third-seeded Wildcats and sixth-seeded Tigers played to a 1-1 overtime tie earlier this season. The section semifinal game played last Saturday afternoon, October 12 appeared to be headed for a shootout, as it looked like the game would end in a 0-0 tie, even after overtime. But with 24 minutes left in regulation, a Princeton play took a shot right at Wildcat goalkeeper Gabby Randall form a tough about ten yards out on the right side of the net. Randall got her hands on it, but the ball appeared to spin out of her hands and rolled right between her legs and into the net to put the Tigers up 1-0. The Wildcats dominated play in the first half, but didn’t get off too many quality shots as Princeton packed the box in the back. At 12 minutes, the Princeton goalie made a save and dropped the ball at the six yard line, but the Wildcats’ rebound shot went over the top of the net to keep the game scoreless. The play was a little more even in the second half, but the Wildcats had the better of the play. Wildcat head coach Chris Haggerty was disappointed, but philosophical, after the game. “The effort was there,” said Haggerty. “But we just didn’t finish our chances. Our inability to step up when we needed to cost us. We made one series of mistakes and it cost us. Our defense was caught too far forward and if they had gotten back in time, the girl never would have taken that shot on Gabby.”
