CL finishes fifth in NS conference
by CHUCK FITZER

At last week’s North Suburban Conference Championship meet, sophomore Hannah Nordby won the 400 meter dash and set a new Chisago Lakes High School record in the process with a time of 58.88 seconds. As teams, the Wildcat girls finished in a tie for fifth place with Irondale and the boys finished in seventh place. But several other Wildcat individuals and one relay team had standout performances.

Girls
Sophomore Sarah Greene came in first in the 800 meter run with a personal record time of 2:23.67. Combined with senior Abby Forsman’s third place finish in the 800, it gave the Wildcats 16 of the team’s 71.5 points in one race. Forsman also finished second in the 1600 meter run, nine seconds behind the winner, eighth grader Rhianna Rinke of North Branch. The foursome of senior Beka Meyer, sophomore Lauryn Delzer, Greene and Nordby won the 4 x 400 relay with this year’s personal best of 4:09.30 and beat second place North Branch by 2.7 seconds. The 4 x 100 team finished second.

Boys
Junior Josh Parks set a personal record of 11.30 seconds in his qualifying heat for the 100 meter dash. In the finals, Parks finished fifth in 11.64 seconds. Senior Eric Brown also set a personal record in the 100 meter dash in his qualifying heat with a time of 11.20 seconds. But he strained his hamstring in the race and was scratched from all other events for the conference meet. Brown’s qualifying time would have been good for second p[lace in the finals. Wildcat head coach Karen Manske said “We are hoping that Eric will be able to compete in the Section 7AA championships next week.” Juniors Andy Magnuson and Carson Velaski came in third and fifth, respectively, in the 1600 meter run.

In the 3200, Magnuson finished second in 10:19.63, seven seconds behind the winner, sophomore Nick Lawson of Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony. And a potential future star for the Wildcats, sophomore Jake Schwelling, finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 11’0”.
