Cambridge-Isanti 9, Chisago Lakes 5
Four Wildcat errors led to four unearned runs for Cambridge-Isanti as the Bluejackets beat the Wildcats 9-5 at Cambridge Monday, June 8 in the opening game of the American Legion baseball season. Cambridge broke open a 1-1- tie with four runs in the fourth inning, three of them unearned, to take a 5-1 lead.
Trailing 9-2 in the top of the seventh, the Wildcat bats finally came alive. Three straight line drive singles by Tyler Rivard, Kyle Buchanan and Tyler Henderson accounted for one run. Joey Reed then doubled to deep right center to score the other two runners and cut the Cambridge lead to 9-5. But that was the end of the rally, as the next three batters went out to end the game.
Chisago Lakes 11, Hinckley 3
Three doubles and Brian Eichten's two-run homer highlighted a five run fourth inning for the Wildcats as they beat Hinckley 11-3 Tuesday, June 9 at Hinckley.
Doubles by Brandon Gorski, Tyler Rivard and Luke Schuler scored two runs. With one out, Tyler Henderson's single moved Schuler to third. Schuler scored on Joey Reed's sacrifice fly. Eichten then drilled a two-run home run to left center to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead. The Wildcats added three runs in the fifth. Sean McConville led off with a walk, stole second and went to third on a passed ball. With two outs, he scored on Tyler Henderson's single. Courtesy runner Bryant Nelson stole second and moved to third on Reed's single. Reed stole second, and both runners scored on Bryan Eichten's two-run single.
Henderson and Eichten had three hits apiece to lead the Wildcats. Starting pitcher Quinn Collins allowed two earned runs on five hits in four innings. Travis Ongstad allowed one hit and struck out four in three innings of relief.
Chisago Lakes 14, Milaca 5
The Wildcats gave their fans a treat in their home opener, scoring seven runs in the first two innings on their way to a 14-5 win over Milaca on Thursday, June 11. The Wildcats made the most of their seven hits, taking advantage of ten walks, a hit batter and four Hinckley errors as they scored in five out of six innings.
Tyler Henderson drove in four runs with a double and a single. Joey Reed, Travis Ongstad and Bryant Nelson each singled to drive in two runs. Patrick Cavanaugh had an RBI groundout in the third. Tyler Rivard and Luke Schuler each walked three times, combining to score five runs. Tyler Rivard pitched a complete game for the win, growing stronger as the game went on. He allowed just two earned runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking three.
Mankato 7, Chisago Lakes 3
In the first game of a doubleheader, Mankato broke open a close game with five runs I the top of the seventh to beat the Wildcats 7-3 at Chisago Lakes last Sunday, June 14.
In the bottom of the first, Kyle Buchanan reached o a one-out error, Tyler Henderson singled and Joey Reed doubled to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Mankato scored two in the top of the fourth. With two out and a runner on first, a Wildcat outfielder dropped a fly ball for an error, putting runners on second and third. The next batter singled for the first Mankato hit of the game, driving in two runs.
The Wildcats got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Joey Reed led off with a home run to left canter to tie the score at 2-2. Two outs later, Tyler Rivard swung at a pitch in the dirt for strike three. The ball rolled all the way to the backstop, ad Rivard easily reached first safely. Singles by Brandon Gorski and Steve Ramberg loaded the bases, and a single by Cody Bergquist scored Rivard to put the Wildcats up by one.
Through six innings, Reed was in control of the game from the mound, allowing just two unearned runs on one hit while striking out nine and walking three. But Reed tired in the seventh, and Mankato had scored five runs in the inning before it was all over.
Chisago Lakes 10, Mankato 7
The Wildcats led 9-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, but Wildcat relief pitchers allowed six runs to close the gap to 9-7. They got one back in the bottom of the sixth and then Tyler Henderson pitched a perfect ninth to close out a 10-7 win over Mankato in the second game of last Sunday's doubleheader.
In the second, Joey Reed singled in Bryan Eichten with the game's first run. The Wildcats went up 4-0 in the fourth on Tyler Henderson's three-run blast to left. In the fifth, Schuler led off with a walk, Henderson singled and Reed doubled in both runners. Sean McConville and Bryant Nelson walked to load the bases. Reed singled in two runs, and Patrick Cavanaugh drove in the fifth run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Quinn Collins started for the Wildcats and went four innings to earn the victory, allowing one run on four hits while striking out four. Henderson led the Wildcats with three hits.
