Don't miss your chance to advertise in our Community and Visitor Guide
Well it finally looks like we have turned the corner and are heading towards seeing grass again.  What a long cold winter we have endured this season. I love the snow but the 40 below temperatures is what seems to get me and everyone down.  It will be just a matter of time before we are on the golf course and me in my boat not catching fish.

Taking you to the tropics
It’s about pineapples today. We all know what pineapples are and when this fruit catches your eye in the produce department which one would you buy?  Look for the ones that are plump; the larger the fruit the greater amount of edible meat. Gently squeeze the fruit; it should be slightly soft to the touch, yet firm. Sniff the bottom and it should have a sweet smell.

Home Show was well attended, many thanks aren't enough for Richard
I hope you had a chance to come to the Chisago Lakes Home and Business Expo over the weekend.  I was a bit nervous because our booth numbers were down a bit from last year, but the numbers that showed up to visit the show eased my fears.  We had a really nice turnout and the weather was great. It was so great spending time with readers and advertisers in such a comfortable environment.  Everyone seemed to be in really good spirits.  Thank you for everyone who stopped by to say hi and talk, we had some great conversations about everything under the sun.  Thanks to Bob Meyer, Coreen Agre, Jenny Reed, Wendy Redland, Becky Carlson, Cory Lindgren and Laurie Doughty for all of their hard work on and at the show.  It couldn't take place if it weren't for them.

Look on the back recipes
Today my recipes come from the back of the box, a soup can, etc. I don’t know about you but when I’m cooking and some ingredient comes from a box or a container, I always check to see if there is a recipe I might like to try. You would be surprised (maybe not) of the recipes I’ve accumulated. Because the recipes are printed on a sturdy container, I keep them in a pile with a rubber band around them in my “back of the box” file!

Fish are excellent source of nutrition
We are in the Lenten season of the Christian church, and I know that many of you refrain from eating meat on Fridays at this time. All fish are excellent sources of protein, vitamins and minerals and are relatively low in calories and fat.  All fish, fatty ones included, have much less saturated fat than most meat. In fish, the higher-fat foods are recommended because the type of fat they contain - Omega-3 fatty acids – can help lower blood cholesterol and help ease the pain of arthritis
