1/30/2014 2:25:00 PM Thank you Celebration Committee; why
am I cold? Then why am I perspiring?
If you were one of the brave ones who came out to see what the new look Celebration of the Lakes was, I thank you. The event was hindered by Mother Nature a bit, but those who did attend seemed to be having a good time. The race had a good turnout and the kids ice fishing clinic was absolutely packed. There was not a spare seat in the community center. I am sorry the kids didn't get to the ice to try their new poles, that would have been a really great time. The spaghetti dinner had a tremendous turnout in Center City. Saturday was actually a beautiful day, if you were looking out your window. It was sunny and bright, but very cold. Many thanks go to the Celebration of the Lakes Committee for all of their hard work. All of these folks braved the cold weather and were on the ice for much of the weekend. I think the new celebration has a ton of potential.
I heard a lot of people leading up to the celebration grumbling about there being no balloons this year. The committee and the chamber knew it wouldn't go over well. But let's take a close look at this past weekend. Friday, the temperatures were very sub-arctic and high winds. Saturday had even colder temperatures and a stiff wind from the North. Sunday had white-out blizzard conditions. If the balloons were here this year, I can personally guarantee they would not have even taken them out of the trailers. So the correct decision was made. Obviously, the years when they actually do fly, make it a totally different event. Why am I telling you all of this? Because we need your help. We need new fresh ideas - from you. We are asking the public for ideas to make the celebration a bigger better event. Maybe you think we need to bring back the snowmobile drags. Maybe you think we should have a polar plunge. Maybe.. you get the idea. I encourage you to send your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org and in the subject line type "Celebration of the Lakes Idea".
There is still time to register your business for the 2014 Home & Business Expo in February. The show is a great place to showcase your business and network with other businesses in the area. It is inexpensive and is held at the high school. If interested, please register on the Chisago Lakes Chamber website under Home Show.
The Press has been hit by the flu bug. Our editor is on her second bout of it and our sales person along with myself are nearing the end of the flu. Every year I get the flu shot. I might be in the drug store and see a sign and decide to get one. I have even gotten one in a grocery store at an away basketball tournament because I saw a sign for flu shots. Well apparently I didn't see any signs this year. On Thursday I attended my daughter's gymnastics meet and something just felt off. By the end of the meet, I had four layers of coats on me and was trying to get my son to give me his. By the time we made it home I had just enough energy to crawl into bed. Of course I woke up three times during the night feeling like I just swam the English Channel. This went on for three days and just today I can honestly say I feel "okay". Other than a cough that sounds like "Sparky" the seal at Como Zoo, I am getting along pretty good. If you are out and about and see a sign for flu shots, take them up on it. The flu is alive and well in Chisago Lakes.
