Lakes Area Police were notified December 9 by two women who had spotted a body lying in a yard on Nathan Court, Lindstrom. The deceased had been blanketed by the most recent snowfall and a shotgun was lying on the ground next him. Chief Stenson said all indications are that the matter can be considered a suicide, but authorities are still checking into some ballistics evidence.
December 9 report of burglary overnight and theft of restaurant equipment from the ice cream shop on Bench Street in Taylors Falls. December 10 LAPD assisted at the scene of a deputy patrol car hit by a passing vehicle as the deputy tried to help another party. The incident was on Olinda Trail, at 270th, about 9 a.m. The deputy was not seriously hurt but several thousand dollars in damage resulted to the squad. The driver who crashed into the squad was cited for careless driving.
December 13 Lakes Area Police were alerted of what was thought by a witness to be theft of a skidsteer from the Koehn car sales lot in Lindstrom. Police apprehended a 47- year-old woman shortly after midnight, immediately after the call, driving the skidsteer on Oak Street.
Lakes Area officers were called out for two suicidal incidents over the week, one person was fleeing Fairview Medical Center and was located. December 14 a vehicle went through the ice on West Rush Lake, by the island not far from the public access. Driver got out okay.
December 15 LAPD assisted at a Shafer address on Regal Ave. when a suspect that a deputy was dealing with, armed with a knife, was belligerent and kicking a door. This suspect was taken into custody about 6:30 p.m. North Branch Police also had an incident Dec. 15 with a reluctant arrestee. The officer was responding to two calls of a suspicious person in old downtown between Central Park and the freeway. The North Branch officer attempting to make contact first said the man fled. There was some combative behavior when she tried to detain the man, according to the initial report. The officer was not hurt, and the suspect, a 29-year-old from North Branch, was ultimately transported to jail and booked for obstruction, false name to police and fleeing.
For the week, at Chisago Lakes High Schools, an officer was sent to the school on request of a parent wanting a drug test of their child at the school. And, one ticket was issued to a student for possessing tobacco. Contraband was found in a locker search.
