10/4/2013 11:56:00 AM Shafer Days this weekend; there is a
new business in downtown Lindstrom
The city of Lindstrom would like to see you this weekend. They will be dedicating the completion of the Highway 8 project through town. Beginning at 11 a.m., there will be a ribbon cutting in Memorial Park along with a Swedish Luncheon. When the luncheon is complete, stick around for the unveiling of the new statues that will be placed on the ends of the turn around in Lindstrom. The work is another masterpiece by our favorite local sculptor Ian Dudley, and promises to be awesome.
Shafer Days is here. I wrote about Friday’s events last week, Saturday is when the festivities really get rolling. There is a pancake breakfast at the Fire Hall that begins at 7 a.m. Grab your friends and hunt for the missing clog, the clues are posted at 9 a.m. and you can win $100 with a Shafer Days button. Also at 9 a.m., a few events take place. There is a great classic car show that stretches down the streets of Shafer. There is an inflatable park for the kids as well as some great vendors that are selling goods and goodies.
Everybody’s favorite event, the bank robbery reenactment begins at 2 p.m. Soon after the robbery, the annual Shafer Days Parade will take place. Come to the Fire Hall to warm up with a movie and popcorn that begins at 5 p.m. The Shafer and Franconia Fall Dance begins at 8 p.m. with the Grand Prize Raffle winner being chose at 10:45 p.m.
I know the forecast is not promising, but that is all the more reason to come to Shafer Days. If you can’t be out in the yard, why not be having fun?
The great women and men that have worked so hard each and every year to put on the Outerwear Fair need your help. Yes they took a major blow when they lost their linchpin Chris Bjorklund, but the show must go on. Chris has helped make this one of the greatest charity events in the county and these folks are going to make sure it is bigger and better than ever before. So how can you help? From now until October 22, they are asking you for your winter clothing donations. Coats, hats, gloves, mittens, boots, snow pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, basically anything warm. They ask that the clothing be in decent shape please. These clothes will be separated into age and gender categories for the fair which takes place October 25 and 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom. Last year, there were over 130 families that graciously accepted your donations at the fair. You have been simply awesome donating for the Chisago County homeless shelter this summer, let's try to clean our closets and do some good. If you are like me, you will look at a coat and although I might not wear it, I will say to myself "Someday I will wear it". I probably won't. Besides if it has sat and I am debating it, is it really that important to me? Giving to charity is one of the greatest things we can do. You can drop your donations off at Trinity or if you like, you can bring them here to the Press and we will make sure they get over there. Thank you and God bless you.
There is still time to donate to the 2013 Feed My Starving Children mobile packing event. Currently they can not offer more shifts (I know there are a lot of you asking) until more money is raised. If you would like to donate and thus create more packing shifts, please click on the tile on our website. Thank you.
This is the last weekend to ride the Alpine Slide, go karts and freefall. Wild Mountain will begin their preparations for winter next week. They continue to offer their wonderful scenic boat tours where you can see some amazing fall colors already.
The Chisago Lakes Lions Club is holding their annual Pancake/French Toast Breakfast on Sunday. The event is at the High School cafeteria, tickets can be purchased at the door.
There is a really neat store in Lindstrom. The Metal Shed had a soft opening a couple of weeks ago, and now is open for business. They have some of the most creative jewlery, wind chimes, wall decor and gift items you will ever see. The “Shed” is located in the front of the County Press and is open this weekend. Come in and say welcome to Lindstrom!
