2/21/2013 11:19:00 AM Please come out to the Home Show this
weekend; wrestling a big deal? Umm yes!
Spring time is just around the corner. B.S. you say? I have proof. The 2013 Home and Garden Show is taking place this weekend at the Chisago Lakes High School. Would these vendors bother attending the show if Spring wasn’t close? I don’t think so. Even though there is snow in the forecast, I am asking you to please come out to the show.
As always, the show is free to the public, and despite a waffling economy, the vendor numbers at the show are higher than ever. You should have received the Home Show tab in your free papers this weekend, but if not, you can pick one up here at the Press or at the Show. So what is in the show? As always, there are tons of local businesses that would love to show you how they can help you with their goods and services. It is a non-pressure show that you can stroll through, talk with business owners whom many times are friends of ours, all without feeling cornered.
When I first started attending the Home Shows, I will be honest, I dreaded it. I was so nervous to talk to that many people, probably out of fear they were going to tell me everything I had done wrong. Now I love it, I actually look forward to seeing people every year and hearing about their families.
Need another reason to visit the Home Show? How about the possibility of winning a mini Ipad? The Chamber of commerce is selling only 500 tickets for a 32Gig Ipad mini. Tickets are only $5. The show will also feature entertainment from the Jazz Ensemble, Kevin Jennissen, Josie Olson, and the One Act Play. There will be seminars given by St. Croix Regional Medical Center (sports health), and John Unruh (college funding). I really hope you come to the show, and please stop by our booth, I have something really neat to show you.
Last week something big happened in Pine City. The Chisago Lakes Wildcats wrestling team qualified for the state tournament. Big deal, we send wrestlers all the time to the tourney you say? While that is true, we rarely have the opportunity to send our entire team.
This is a fantastic accomplishment folks. Chisago Lakes has always been known for a strong wrestling program, but for us to take a whole team to St. Paul, is unbelievable. Congratulations to coach Fredrixon and the rest of the staff for doing such a great job with the boys. A huge congratulations to the team for accomplishing something that many teams will never accomplish. The team will wrestle next Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center. Look in our sports page for times. It would be great to see a ton of people from our area come down and support these kids.

A while back I wrote about a program called Health Equipment Lending Program (HELP). They are looking for donations of medical equipment including wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, shower benches, chairs and toilet risers. The equipment will be used locally to be lent out for those in need to borrow. The equipment can be borrowed for up to six months. The group who runs the HELP program, is based out of the First Methodist Church in Lindstrom. If you would like to donate equipment or if you have a need for equipment, please give them a call at 651-257-4306.

Speaking of giving, and Spring, I have another request from you. Now that Spring is on the way, many people clean out their closets to see what they can and can’t fit into anymore. In my case, it’s can’t. Many people with children find they have stacks of clothes that no longer fit their kids any more. That is where I come in. Or should I say you come in. I know of a homeless shelter in Minneapolis that is in great need of our old clothes. These folks obviously are in dire straits and our donations will help them tremendously. The beautiful part of this is the donations go directly to the residents of the shelter. If they do not use them immediately, they will certainly use them in the near future.
They are looking for basically everything, clothing of all ages, games (complete), beauty supplies, coats, footwear, books. Toys are welcomed, but they must be in good shape. If you happen to be cleaning out your closets in the near future, please keep them in mind. You can bring donations here to the Press or if you are unable to get here, please give me a call at 651-257-5115 and I will come get them. Thank you and God bless.
