Minnesota Masonic Charities is offering to do a 1:1 match on fundraisers done by local lodges to benefit non-profit organizations serving their communities. Hiram Lodge 287 in Lindstrom was chartered in 1915 and has 65 members. Recognizing the good that can come from a dollar for dollar match, lodge member Brian Hoffman is taking the lead in organizing this year’s fund drive to benefit Family Pathways Lindstrom Food Shelf.

The drive is already off to a great start with the lodge pledging to contribute $500 to donations collected from local individuals. At the end of February, the lodge will submit their drive results and all the donations will be matched by Minnesota Masonic Charities and a check will be presented to the Food Shelf during the statewide Minnesota March Food Share Drive. Hoffman is also organizing lodge members to do some “hands on service” in February. They will be covering all the volunteer positions at Family Pathways’ Community Meal on Monday, February 11.

Community Meals are held at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City every Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. and are free. Family Pathways Lindstrom Food Shelf serves families in Lindstrom, Chisago City, Center City, Shafer and Taylors Falls. Last year, 135,244 pounds of food and personal care products were distributed during 1,793 family visits at this location. “Despite the increased need since the start of the recession, generous community support has insured that no neighbor needing help has ever been turned away,” according to Lynn Kirk Family Pathways Development Manager. Individuals interested in contributing to this matching fund opportunity may make checks out to Hiram Lodge 287, with the memo marked – Lindstrom Food Shelf Fundraiser.

Funds may be mailed direct to Hiram Lodge287, Box 681, Lindstrom, MN, 55045, or dropped off at the Lindstrom Food Shelf at 12805 Lake Blvd., Lindstrom, MN, 55045 throughout February. Checks must be made out to the Hiram Lodge to qualify for the match. All donations are tax-deductible. Family Pathways’ mission is to work with communities to develop supportive, caring relationships to help people meet their basic needs. In addition to food shelves, the organization also has Youth and Senior Services.
