One reported in critical condition after three vehicle Hwy. 61 crash; Taylors Falls New Year's Day crash victim treated and released

Wyoming and Forest Lake Police and State Patrol responded to a three-vehicle crash near the #61 and 250th intersection at Maranatha Church, about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, January 3. Preliminary information released by the state patrol is that a total of four passengers and three drivers were involved. Daniel Eifert, 62, Christine Ostlund, 46 and Artemio Herrera Franco, 39 were identified as passengers who received medical care for minor injuries. A Pine City woman, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu was reportedly making a left turn into the church drive, and stopped southbound on #61, when a 1998 Ford van struck from behind. Patricia Mabey, 36, was ejected from her Malibu upon impact but her injuries were later described as non life-threatening. Her passener, 15-year-old Bryce Koenig, of Pine City, is reported in critical condition. The driver of the van was not identifid by state patrol, but was reportedly adjusting a sunvisor when she hit the Malibu. The Malibu was pushed into the oncoming traffic lane and hit a northbound 2002 Windstar minivan. The Windstar driver was also not identified. A section of fencing and some landscaping plants near the main lighted intersection in Taylors Falls were damaged very early Tuesday, Jan. 1 when a van crashed coming out of Wisconsin about 4:30 a.m. State Patrol spokesperson Lt. Roeske said the lone occupant, 36-year-old Julie Barger, of Shafer, was transported to Regions Medical Center, where she was treated and released. It appeared she somehow lost control of the Dodge Caravan she was driving and crashed; and a metal fence section went through the windshield, according to preliminary reports.
