Chisago County receives
federal food, shelter funds
Chisago County will be awarded Federal Funds under the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (DHS/FEMA) for the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSNBP).
Chisago County has been chosen to receive $5, 070 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the area. The funds were allocated by the EFSNBP which is chaired by DHS/FEMA with representatives from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Council of Jewish Federations, Catholic Charities, National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, and the United Way Worldwide. The Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country. The Chisago Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) Board, made up of local officials and representatives of service providing agencies, will determine how the funds awarded to Chisago County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs.
A meeting of the Chisago County Local EFSP Board will be held on January 24, 2013, at 10 a.m. Chisago County Health and Human Services - 6133 402nd St, North Branch 55056 The Chisago EFSP Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program. Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have an accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.
Agencies or organizations wishing to apply for a portion of these funds must submit a written request no later than 4 p.m. on January 22, 2013. Requests for funding should be submitted to Chisago County Local EFSP c/o Dawn Besemann, Lakes and Pines CAC, Inc., 1700 Maple Avenue East, Mora, MN 55051. Special accommodations for people with disabilities will be made for meeting arrangements and application process by prior request.
