Moody Lake rough fish population being reduced using Legacy revenues

Money from the new Clean Water-Legacy state constitutional amendment, is being put to good use eliminating rough fish from an area lake. The Forest Lake-Comfort Lake Watershed District, through the Lessard Sams Program, has hired a commercial fishing operation to net bullheads in Moody Lake, in Chisago Lake Township South.
Randy Anhorn, Watershed Dist. Administrator, said the bullhead fish are ending up as an agricultural fertilizer/compost product. Almost one ton of bullheads were taken out of Moody Lake just the first day, a little over a week ago. Interestingly there haven't been any walleye, bass or northerns showing up in the nets. When the bullheads dominate the lake, Anhorn explained, it diminishes the quality of the fishery and it also affects water clarity.
The watershed district project includes installing a fish barrier. Anhorn said township supervisors agreed to allow positioning the special device on a township culvert at an inlet to Moody Lake.
Anhorn also wanted to thank the Chisago County Historical Society for its cooperation in this effort, and permitting workers to be on the Moody Round Barn Historic Site while doing the fish removal.
