The Minnesota State Patrol has finished its investigation of a 2008 fatal crash on Hwy. 8 that resulted in the death of an area driver education instructor.
Neil Stockel was fatally injured while riding in a Chisago Lakes Community Education vehicle, during a lesson with a local student driver. No serious injuries to the student were reported.
The Chevrolet Cavalier was crossing Hwy. 8 at the County Road 23 light when a westbound Blazer struck it August 5, 2008.
A citation for what the patrol described as basically inattentive driving was forwarded to the Chisago County attorney's office, according to Lt. Matt Langer of the state patrol. Charges for allegedly violating "duty to drive with due care" were filed by the Chisago County. At a court appearance Elizabeth Miller, 62, of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin pled not guilty to the violation. Her trial date has been tentatively scheduled for Sept. 8.
